Did you know 19% of high school graduates can’t read. Shocking isn’t it? Well, we decided to do something about it. Introducing Kids Read for Encouragement, Action and Discovery (Kids R.E.A.D.)! Our Kids R.E.A.D. program is designed to combat illiteracy and increase fluency and comprehension by cultivating a love of reading from an early age. Over the course of a year, our daily book club participants make their way through several books covering a variety of topics: leadership, financial freedom, entrepreneurship, civil activism, and self-love. At the end of every topic series, the Un-Included Club sponsors a public Kids R.E.A.D. event where the children creatively present what they’ve learned to the community.

We’re putting down the Twinkies and picking up the garden tools with our Cross Pollination Project. In partnership with Temple’s Blackland Research Center, our kids plant, tend and harvest a community garden year-round, teaching them the importance of fresh food and providing valuable skills along the way. The initiative also includes healthy living cooking lessons throughout the year. We further emphasize the importance of health eating through our Soil and Seeds, Sprouts to Success show, which is seen by thousands of local attendees at the Belton Expo Center during the Mother Earth News Fair. The presentation is seen by thousands more annually when our kids take their show on the road to other states with Mother Earth News.

Every day our kids are bombarded with negative messages that are shaping their minds and molding their perception of themselves and their place in society. Amid a sea of negativity, we are determined to be a lighthouse of positivity that guides them to the shores of their destiny. The 2T2L2 (To Teach is to Learn Twice) Junior Leadership Program promotes community service, research, organizing information, and the practice of teaching. These experiential learning opportunities takes various forms, including, but not limited to, public readings, Mother Earth News Fair presentations and experiments, and hands on experience with Leadership curriculum available from our partners at the Prairie View Coop Extension Program.
