Dollar stores, electric vehicles, the decline of tobacco and the rise of last-mile delivery will irrevocably change the c-store industry. “The good news is dollar stores don’t sell gas,” said Drew Mize, executive vice president and general manager of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions for PDI and a presenter at its 2019 Users Conference, which drew more than 1,100 attendees to Nashville in September. “They don’t sell the complex foods we do. And they don’t sell beer—yet.”

For PDI, an Atlanta-based provider of enterprise management software, these disruptive trends are influencing its product development at the same time the company seeks to erase the seams between its multiple recent acquisitions. Many of the products PDI plans to release over the next year or so are to improve efficiency in response to industry changes under the rampant pace of mergers and acquisitions.
